Biblical Discipleship Series: Trusting in God is the first step to make a Biblical change towards Ch
Biblical Discipleship is defined as “helping another believer make a biblical change towards Christ-likeness.” God calls us to encourage one another and admonish (correct) one another. However, the first step to biblical discipleship is trusting in God. Writer Brittany Yesudasan is part of Cru organization that helps make lifetime followers of Jesus Christ. Yesudasan wrote:
“Trusting in Him means believing what He says about Himself, about the world and about you is true. Trusting God is more than a feeling; it’s a choice to have faith in what He says even when your feelings or circumstances would have you believe something different…Trusting in God is living a life of belief in and obedience to God even when it’s difficult,” Brittany Yesudasan. “How to Trust God, Even in Difficult Times.”Accessed August 19th, 2020. https://www.cru.org/us/en/train-and-grow/spiritual-growth/trust-god.html)
Yesudasan means that if we are to live a life of trusting in God, We should trust God that he will eliminate COVID-19 at the right time. When we are anxious or fearful, we should rely and trust in God because he cares for you.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
God cared for you so much that he sent Jesus Christ to save you from your sin.
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
So Christ died for you so that you can receive the free gift of eternal life with Him in Heaven. Romans 6:23 states:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
So God was merciful, just, and caring by sending his son to die on the Cross for our sins. Also, you have to believe that Jesus died on the Cross and rose on the third day.
Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household. Acts 16:31
Therefore, we should rely and trust in God because he cares for you so much that he gave you the free gift of eternal life. All you have to do is simply believe in Jesus Christ. Nothing else is needed for Salvation.
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
Nothing else can save you. Jesus is the only Answer. Then after your heart is changed, you can grow in Christ-likeness through reading your Bible, praying to God, and seeking fellowship with other believers.
We should rely and trust in God because He is the God who helps you overcome the storms of Life. Proverbs 3:5-6 states,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
When we trust in God, It can help us get on the right path to overcome the storms of life. A big part of trusting in God is communication with God. God wants communication. He wants us to trust that He can help us overcome the storms of Life by praying to God. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association defined prayer as:
Prayer is spiritual communication between man and God, a two-way relationship in which man should not only talk to God but also listen to Him. Prayer to God is like a child’s conversation with his father. It natural for a child to ask his father for the things he needs. BGEA Staff. “What is Prayer?” Accessed August 19th, 2020. https://billygraham.org/answer/what-is-prayer/
God wants us to trust in Him by praying. Philippians 4:6-7 states
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard you hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
This is important when we pray, we are demonstrating that we are actively trusting and relying on God. God is our comfort and our hope. When the world is drifting away, we can always rely that God is in Control and is our comfort when we are facing the storms of life.
God wants you to trust in Him because your life will radically change for the better. Once we change our heart, our actions will be more God-centered, instead of man-centered. Right knowledge of God leads to the right character and the right character leads to the right actions.God wants you to trust in Him because your life will be on a path to make a biblical change towards Christ-likeness. So please Trust in Him because he cares for you and he can help you overcome the storms of life. Take the first step and Trust in Him.
